SVCA Baseball Wins State Championship

The SVCA Baseball team defeated Pathway Christian Academy 6-3 Saturday making them the 2010 VACA State Champions. Dan Jones pitched a complete game two-hitter, striking out eight without giving up an earned run. Jones pitched in each VACA tournament games, picking up the wins in the quarter-finals and finals, while getting the save in the semi-final game. Tyler Braun-Duin went 2-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI. Mike Powell broke a 2-2 tie in the fifth inning with his two run double. Kyle Ewing was 2-4 with an RBI.
The Patriots really came together in the final three games of the season and played great defense throughout the tournament. Senior Tyler Braun-Duin was selected as the VACA North Region Player of the Year and the VACA State Player of the year. Seniors Matt Nicewarner and Kyle Ewing were selected as 1st team All-Region and 1st team All-State. Dan Jones and Mike Powell were selected as 1st team All-Region and 2nd team All-State, while Emmett Pieper and Nathan Steve were selected as 2nd team All-Region players.
The Patriots finished the season with a 13-8 record overall, 8-1 in the VACA.
