PATRIOTS: 4
LEESBURG: 1
The Patriots traveled to Leesburg Thursday evening for a non-conference match against the Leesburg Lions. The Patriots dominated possession from the opening whistle. Krista Freemire got the scoring started 15 minutes into the match. Freemire received the ball on the outside right and beat 2 Lion defenders with a great touch down the line. She then made a great cut inside and played a solid low ball across the face of the goal. The ball ricocheted off a defender and into the back of the net. Despite the Patriots dominating play, the Lions tied it up off a free kick from a questionable call made just outside the goal box. This sent the teams into halftime tied up.
SVCA came out blazing in the second half. Just 52 seconds into the game, Hannah McGann scored the go-ahead goal giving the Patriots a lead they would not give up the rest of the game. Junior midfielder Kelsey Baggarly played a well-placed pass finding McGann. Hannah took a great first touch pushing it past a defender giving her a 1v1 with the goalkeeper. As the goalie charged off her line McGann slotted a nice left-footed shot into the back of the net. Freshman Hannah Stephens scored the last 2 goals of the game both unassisted at 50 minute mark and the 74th minute.
